day 7

hey all sorry a little late on the day 7 post. kind of crazy day:) so as far as the juice goes hopefully you got all you needed. on the flax seeds you can get the ground or milled. i usually get them at whole foods. i always mix them in with the juice or water in the morning and then at night. IF YOU WOULD RATHER NOT TAKE THEM, because i'm not going to lie they aren't too good. i would be happy to give you the super gi cleanse supplement. call me and i can meet you somewhere. i think the biggest challenge is that you are going to feel real weak and tired. don't work out and take it easy if you can.

also, i have the hydrochloric acid tabs with all the right combinations (you start taking on day 11). i think they are at gnc but don't buy them..i have plenty and will find a way to meet up with you.

WE ARE ALMOST DONE FOLKS

why i decided to detox....

day 2 and day 3 are usually the days you need to pull the book out. i say that because unless you have read all the reasons to do the detox and the benefits it is easy to quit. i know some of you know how i got on the detox but some of you may not. basically i herniated 2 discs in my back about 2 months after i had landon. i was in extreme pain and the specialists recommended doing a series of steroid epidural injections into my back. anyways i had 3 in quite a short time period. of course they don't tell you the side effects but they were awful. the most awful was that i had my period for 3 months (sorry if it's tmi). they were like, " well, just get on birth control". i started doing some online research and found that women all over were experiencing the same side effects and the dr's were like well we don't know. during that time i came across this article in the life time fitness magazine. i was curious because the detox looked well researched and wasn't extreme (as in no eating for several days). i bought the book and thought this is worth a try. all to say the day after i did the juice fast my period stopped and i seriously felt like i was back to my old self.
so if you need some added motivation...read the book:)

if you are open to it, it will totally change your life & the way you view food.
my husband and i do it about 3 times a year.

Day 2

if you've made it to day 2 then you are probably like me and look forward to breakfast:) did i mention that if your spouse does it with you it makes it all the more better!!!!! You might even find yourself cooking together or even better, letting him handle the food for a couple nights. i know some nights i would get so sick of cooking and thinking "what can i eat". if you get to that point i will say this. pita jungle's broiled chicken salad is really yummy. also, jamba juice has this orange refresher(made with juice not from concentrate) and it's yummy. happy detoxing!

costco

for all you who are looking for cheap organic stuff:

big bag of organic frozen asparagus: 7.89
big bag organic frozen blueberries 10.99
organic spinach 3.00

if you don't feel like cooking:)

if you stop at the meat counter at whole foods and then take it right across to the smoke house they will grill/saute it for you for $2. 1 piece, 5 pieces, 8 pieces...it's still $2. obviously you have to pay for the meat but you can tell them exactly how you want it prepared and they will do it. we've used it a lot. it even works good to call ahead if you don't want to have to wait for them to prepare it.

tips for making the veggies

ok for broccoli i have a steamer which is lovely. if you don't just put like 1/4 to 1/2 cup water in a pan bring to boil and put your veggies inside of it until they are tender.

for asparagus i boil water and put them in for 3 minutes...that is pretty much the perfect time i've figured..not to soft & not to hard.

carrots are great steamed or sauteed in a pan with olive oil and garlic.

if anyone has any other tips please post:)

Green leafy veggies

i don't think i mentioned that organic spinach counts as a green leafy vegetable...i don't think it is in the book but it is in her website.

i also wanted to give you this. it's her website that you can also buy the supplements if you don't think you are getting enough of the right stuff. what you would buy is 1 bottle of the super gi cleanse and 1 bottle of the liver loving formula. like i said if you are getting all the stuff then you don't need these but if you want the option i figured i'd give you the link:)
hope everyone is doing great:) you are probably feeling a little tired and might even be thinking what in the hell did i get myself into??!!!! don't worry - i promise in 2 or 3 days it will get easier and you will feel better and have more energy. if you have cravings or feel like "i can't do this", it helps to just take a short walk, start cleaning something:), drink water, have some grapes. if you are tired and able...lay down and take a short nap!

1 more thing:

colin keeps giving me good thoughts:)

i know it is a little expensive buying all organic....but...if you only do this once a year it's not that bad. we are always suprised actually at how much you don't spend considering that you aren't eating out and having that daily starbucks, sonic, mcdonalds, dairy queen...etc, etc...you get my point:)

sample meal for day 1

Breakfast:
3 eggs scrambled cooked in a little olive oil...sounds gross but it is good:)
2 slices turkey bacon
glass of orange juice

Lunch:
salad of some sort (the darker the green the better)
fruit (pears, raspberries, strawberries, apples)

Snack:
grapes/apple

Dinner:
chicken breasts sauteed in garlic and olive oil.
steamed broccoli
carrots (either steamed or sauteed in olive oil

advice for day before

1. Prepare your mind mentally by understanding that this will be difficult, you will get cravings, you will be sluggish and tired the first 3 days.

2. Don't workout like crazy on this. Understand that you will probably be ready for bed earlier and be prepared for some good sleep.

3. It is extremely important that you do organic: Trader Joe's had cheap organic stuff, Sunflower Market, Whole Foods (365 brand is very reasonable)

4. Make sure you have the book: Check it out from your local library or buy it from any number of bookstores.

5. Go into the detox with the frame of mind that losing weight is not the target and don't get on the scale every day. Eating healthy will probably make you aware of the fact that what goes into your body affects the amount of energy you have.

6. Understand that you will be grumpy at times because you can't have that sweet treat you were counting on:)

7. TELL YOURSELF YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!

8. Go shopping for food: For your meat i would recommend whole foods because if it isn't organic it is all free range and free of antibiotics.

organic eggs
organic turkey bacon (hard to find, wellshire farms at whole foods makes this peppered turkey bacon that is so yummy).
organic oranges, limes, lemons (we actually get the organic not from concentrate orange juice from whole foods. the brand is organic valley.
organic pears
organic strawberries, raspberries, blueberries
organic apples
organic beets
organic asparagus
organic broccoli
organic cabbage
organic cauliflower
cilantro
lean beef
turkey burgers
fish
chicken breasts
whole foods has great organic and or antibiotic free lunch meat in the deli

* you only need the supplements if you aren't going to be getting the food groups listed above.

* good snacks are grapes (sweet), apples & lunch meat:)

*make sure you are drinking half your body weight in oz of water. a lot of times our bodies mistake dehydration for hunger:)
